My household (other than my husband!) usually wakes up between 8 and 9 in the morning. I am not a morning person and so I normally sleep in until the kids wake me up leaving my "quiet time" for night. But this morning I was awake before 7 am.
I decided to surprise my husband and have breakfast and spend some time with him before he went to work. I was thwarted as he had to go in early and I just missed him. As I came downstairs, he drove off. So I had some toast and read my Bible. The house was quiet; the deck was cool; it was lovely.
Then at 7:30 am Maeva started fussing so I got in bed with her and snuggled down. She was sweet and we both fell back asleep. I felt like this waking up early thing had some potential.
Then at 9 am both kids were awake and Maeva said, "Diaper not on, diaper not on." I had a horrific feeling as I wondered if we forgot to put a diaper on her last night and she had been snuggling in bed with me!!! But I felt and there was a diaper so I reassured her and the three of us snuggled a little more.
When we got up a few minutes later she was walking funny and was telling me that she was peeing which she usually doesn't worry much about when a diaper is catching it. I took off her sleeper. She was right. The sticky tab had un-attached itself from the diaper and the diaper was hanging off of her and pee running down her leg into the foot of the sleeper. We got her wiped up and a new diaper on.
Then we went down stairs to put olive oil on her skin before getting her clothes on (Maeva is still battling eczema and yesterday at the lake an Arabic man told me that salt water and olive oil had cleared his daughter up) and we had put it on her the night before and she was not scratching, her skin felt smoother and the redness was a little less which is better luck than we have had with anything except the very strong steroids.
Well, for some reason Maeva didn't want the olive oil on although the night before she had said it didn't hurt her skin like some of the lotion does. Regardless, it needed to be done so I was lathering her up and she was trying to get away. In the process she knocked the open olive oil over on the floor and it spilled about a half cup of olive oil onto our carpet.
At this moment Milton started shouting from the bathroom, "Mama, I need you!" I assumed he just needed his bottom wiped and shouted back he would have to wait a moment as I tried to clean up the oil and finish lathering Maeva. A moment later Milton came back to the living room and explained that he was sorry, it was an accident. He had accidentally peed all over the bathroom floor.
After cleaning up the oil, I inspected the bathroom. There was indeed a lot of pee on the floor and in the process of cleaning it up I found that somehow there was also sand all over the floor (obviously from our trip to the lake yesterday but I know there hadn't been any there last night so somehow when my son was going to the bathroom he must have emptied something - a pocket maybe - that had an enormous amount of sand in it). I hate sand! I would much prefer to step in pee than sand but I gritted my teeth and cleaned up both.
Then it was time for breakfast. Tomorrow I hope to sleep until noon and miss all the messes that the morning creates!
